THE REST:

Like crinolines and bustles, they were both absent and present; absent because they were hidden and present because of the shape they gave. Unlike the crinoline and the bustle, which went in and out of fashion, the corset remained an essential part of fashionable female dress throughout the nineteenth century. In earlier advertisements, corsets were presented suspended empty in mid-air, and it was not until the 1880s that a woman inside a corset was shown. Most of the corset controversy revolved around the dangers or pleasures of tight-lacing; the spectacle or promise of the wasp-waist represented the extremes of corsetry, and debates about it appeared intermittently throughout the period, culminating in a long-running controversy in the pages of The Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine in the 1860s. Most commentators agreed that the sensible wearing of corsets was an essential part of female dress, although an increasing number of reformers were concerned about the health problems associated with its prolonged use. When the British Association held a meeting on the subject of stays in 1888, it was reported by both The Queen , a commercial ladies' paper, and The Rational Dress Society's Gazette , a non-profit making organ of the Rational Dress Society and the key dress-reform movement of the last part of the century. The Queen reported the speaker's claim that the Venus de Medici did not need a corset and wittily retorted that 'Venus couldn't pass muster at a London garden party'. The Rational Dress Society's Gazette , on the other hand, reported on both Charlotte Stopes' condemnation of the practice of tight lacing and Lydia Becker's support of comfortable corsets: 'stick to your stays ladies, and triumph over the other sex'. Becker was defending the corset as an integral part of a distinctly feminine dress; it remained an essential part of women's dress well into the twentieth century and is currently enjoying a comeback in high fashion circles. But the corset embodied both literally and figuratively the question of fashion as repressive or expressive. Notwithstanding the controversy about tight-lacing, the corset could be seen as an essential fashion item which gave a particular shape and enhanced the waist; or, it could be seen as an apparatus which imprisoned and restricted movement. e approved of the 'emancipation bodice' described in a regular series of articles on dress in the Girl's Own Paper a year earlier in 1887. The bodice was promoted as a comfortable version of the traditional corset, and was offered as a healthy alternative. The endorsement of this in a commercial magazine for girls and young women shows the effect that aspects of dress reform had had on mainstream publications and conventional habits. However, this acceptance remained only with underclothes, and the dress reformer's call for reformed outer dress was never accepted by the mainstream, as many articles on the topic in the 1880s and 90s demonstrate. The emancipation bodice referred to the emancipation of the body, but the emancipation of the mind was a key item on the dress reformers' agenda. According to followers of fashion, the dress reformers sought to make women manly, and it was against this charge that the reformers had to fight. The Victorian dress-reform movement gathered momentum with the formation of the Rational Dress Society by Lady Harberton, a prominent feminist, and Emily King in 1881. The Society was preceded by the aesthetic, or artistic movement in dress in the late 1870s. Artistic dress was classical in influence and was characterised by smooth lines, oriental patterns and the use of muted vegetable dyes as an alternative to the bright aniline dyes of the 1850s. By the 1880s, elements of artistic dress had influenced high fashion, notably through the 'princess line' and the tea gown, flowing, unrestricted styles of the 1890s. However, artistic dress was not rational dress and, although related to some degree and comparably comfortable, the rational-dress movement was a far more radical attack, not just on definitions of fashion, but also on the wider implications that restricted dress, as they saw it, had on women's lives. 562:3:227:: Then Bruce wanted to meet with me in his office. I hate this because we genuinely dislike each other and try to avoid any direct communication. He wanted to tell me what my year-end bonus would be... it's based entirely on production... and regardless of your contribution to the team... you only get what you actually sold yourself. So... Thuy , who has two assistants and who is absolutely for no reason whatsoever called upon to pitch in to help when we're shorthanded, who never has to take on additional work, train new staff members, or answer the phone (as Amy and I do) is getting a year end bonus of around $7000. Amy and I are getting a mere fraction of that combined! We were actually scolded the other day because the new girl, Kristina , asked for help from one of Thuy's girls instead of Amy and I (we were both busy with clients). It's frustrating and discouraging and rather than Bruce acknowledge our team contributions... and the fact that he doesn't operate a level playing field... he rubs our noses in her bonus amount. He pulled the check out to show me (hers) and said, " how does this make you feel ?" What would your answer be? What do you think he expected me to say? I looked him square in the eye and in a very calm, even tone of voice said, " I'm proud that Thuy is able to use the circumstances you have put her in to the advantage of the agency and herself ". He just stared at me for a minute or so. And then he said, " how does it make you feel about your bonus check ?" I said, " I'm very proud of all my accomplishments this year. I sold more products this year than ever before. I provided great service to our customers, trained other staff members and played a vital role in our agency. You don't have to pay me any Christmas bonus at all for me to know that I've done a good job ". The accomplishments of others does not subtract from my personal accomplishments. His reply? " I'm proud of you too ." I continued..." I faced a lot of health issues this year, had to raise three children by myself, at times without child support, I've dealt with a special needs child and on top of that managed to lose 45 pounds and meet all my career obligations ". He stuttered and stammered and told me he was looking forward to good things from me next year. Bite me. 662:3:214:: Cody and I had a long talk yesterday about Christmas presents. We're planning to get a massage for Ryan and Cody's boss, Charlie . It's so random how Charlie came into our lives... I was working on a show with Michael ... and this gorgeous young gay man came to audition for the lead... he was amazingly talented but because he was already obligated to a show that Michael's good friends were putting on, ethically we just couldn't cast him. He still kept coming around and helped out with the production and we developed a friendship. WELL... this guy... we'll call him " Chip ".... lived with his partner anda third roommate... Charlie . I can't remember exactly when I met Charlie but it might have been at Chip's New Year's Eve party in 2003... the last time I got REALLY DRUNK. I was so drunk that I was laying on the floor and couldn't get up and Joey was standing on my hair kissing this guy... and I was screaming, " you're on my hair " and he said through gritted teeth, " Sacrifice bitch ". It was funny... or so I'm told. Chip has been long gone from my life... haven't heard from him in over a year... he hooked up with another friend of ours who turned out to be a real problem child.... yet Charlie ... despite being a little weird and quirky... has provided a career path and income for my wandering oldest child. My kids put Charlie through a lot of stress and he's someone both Ryan and Cody turn to when they need something that mom can't handle. Charlie and I will frequently consult on issues with the boys. I told Cody that I want to honor those contributions to our lives this year, not just give gifts that have a big cha-ching factor. Nobody in our lives is "needy" but there are a lot of people in our lives who need to know that they are loved and appreciated. 678:3:152:: Last night I sat down and calculated my points for the day. It was a weird day in that I was gone most of the day... and unlike at work when I can pack my food for the day, I had to eat what I could eat. For breakfast I had a banana ... then I reheated a small bowl of the cashew chicken from the night before. I had a hard time coming up with a point total for the cashew chicken so when I ate it yesterday I measured out the rice... then calculated the weight of the chicken and counted the cashews. Everything else in it was pretty much zero points (carrots, onion, peppers) and I allowed points for the sauce but really skimped on it. I love thai food and wish it wasn't so hard to calculate. ANYWAYS... we were planning to take Sarabeth out for tea but they were running late getting down here and traffic was bad so we ended up eating at Arbys. I had one roast beef sandwich ... that's it.... then AFTER the Nutcracker my dad had fixed dinner for all of us.... nachos. I skipped the chips and made a bed of lettuce with onion, a half cup of the meat and beans and a drizzle of cheese sauce . That's all I ate all day... but that was all my daily points (including my coffee with lite creamer and sugar). It really showed me how I can use the same points and have either feast or famine. I was hungry last night and thought about making a low point snack for myself... I eat my daily points and activity points every day but never touch my flex points so I could have dipped into those and still technically been on plan... but I laid there and thought about it and fell asleep before I decided what I wanted to do. 734:3:117:: Both trees are decorated... mine in blue and white, University of Kentucky colors AND I ordered a special UK ornament for the tree from the school store online. I also ordered a new sweatshirt for myself! I'm looking for blue and white candy canes today... And all that UK decorating got me in the mood for catching the live version... they play in Atlanta tomorrow night vs. Georgia State and I would sooo love to go to the game... still contemplating... and it also got me in the mood to see Bootie Call . I miss him. Yesterday I drove down to the land behind his second wife's old house... her family sold the land to build a subdivision and they named the subdivision after the family. They named the three streets in the subdivision after family members who have passed... including Bootie Call's stepson, Jake , who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 2003. It's Jake Trail.... made me cry a little... then later when I hung Jake's ornament on the tree.... I make an ornament every year for the people in our lives who pass away. Usually a glass ball with their name and dates written in gold or silver paint pen. I have two to add this year... and I'm going to make an ornament symbolizing the weight loss as well. I feel for Bootie Call because it's still hard knowing that Jake is gone, even after two years... and now that Bootie Call's own son is spending Christmas in prison... I know this will be a tough Christmas for him. 789:3:153:: Today is going to be a day for conquering my to do list so I can get a lot of the little things that add up to stress me out taken care of.... I'm going to sit down and pay my bills through January, so that's done. I'm going to get all my personal filing done (it hasn't been done since August). I'm going food shopping. I'm going to make a list of what I need to buy for Christmas and what I need to make for Christmas so I have a working list that I hopefully check off a little each day on. I work near a big shopping area so I can hit one store a day on lunch if I already know what I'm looking for. I don't have enough time to browse aimlessly but if I have on my list: "Media Play for Xbox games blank and blank" I can knock that out in fifteen minutes. I'm going to get the pictures of the girls printed out and framed for my parents and get the old pictures of me in the dresses copied and framed. I'm also going to make both mom and Angie a set of all the pictures we took getting the perfect shot. 804:3:211:: Today is "be kind to yourself day" in Heatherland. It's a continuation of "be kind to yourself" evening that I earned after a frustrating day yesterday. I have been on this new routine where I get my bath and fix my hair at night - which has been great, by the way, to the extent that I've thought, "why haven't I ALWAYS done this?" but last night it came down to... "I either have the energy to exercise or to glam...." So I exercised. My exercise was eclectic and random... I did about 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of pilates and strength training and about 20 minutes of yoga... I just listened to my body... I knew that I didn't have a good hard cardio workout in me... but I knew I had to push me a little bit. It felt good. I watched Survivor/Friends/Joey (I'm too ADD for just one show at a time) then I watched the Apprentice and did Cross Sums (math logic problems, I do this to relax) and then I watched ER/the local news. I fell asleep after 11 and I had a hard time waking up this morning. 815:3:119:: For instance... every year we give Bruce a gift certificate to somewhere. Now... the last thing that man needs is more money. So for this year... I made the suggestion that we make a photo book like the one I made for Jamie at www.shutterfly.com and title it, " While you were out - A behind the scenes look at the day to day operations of your business when you are out of town ". We came up with about twenty different captions and we're going to spoof things like, "We are careful to observe the agency dress code" and have all of usin pajamas and robes... "We never accept cash" and have someone at the front desk counting a pile of play money... that sort of thing. He out of town this week so we're going to try to get the pictures taken today and tomorrow and get the book ordered tomorrow night so we can have it in time for the Christmas party next week. Everyone in the office came up with ideas so it's going to be a lot of fun... 817:3:191:: Any time I go to a restaurant I get nervous. It's still my weakest point in the whole weight loss scenario. WE have this fabulous Thai restaurant, Flavors of Thailand, which is basically in the low rent district (aka Ghetto) between the Oriental Spa ("you want happy ending?") and the Flea Market. Barry's brother's barber shop is in the same shopping center. The place looks like a hole in the wall buttwo basil rolls... it's the thin rice paper filled with lettuce, basil and shrimp. It's served chilled... the vietnamese girls eat this a lot. I figured other the than rice paper, it had to be pretty low points. To me... that would make a very filling meal in itself. BUT... I also had cashew chicken with steamed rice. I had about a 1/2 cup of rice and a cup of the cashew chicken... which I know, due to the nuts, is not low point. However... instead of eating my way through the whole entree like I used to.... I just measured out a serving and had her put the rest away. 824:3:216:: Tomorrow is our big day at the Nutcracker with Sarabeth ... and then I'm going to a holiday concert to see Attorney Friend sing. The holiday concert will probably be a solo event for me. Nobody wants to go with me. Inevitably there will be people there that I know... having worked in performing arts in our area for long enough to know lots of people... but doing these things alone takes a lot of courage for me... In a way I feel like going somewhere by myself just SCREAMS, " I'm single and I have no friends " *laugh*. At any rate... it will be a flurry of seasonal activities for me this weekend and even though that means I won't get a lot of down time... I'm excited... Christmas only comes once a year! And all my fun is activity related, not food related... EXCEPT... we are taking Sarabeth out for "tea" tomorrow before the Nutcracker. It's going to be me, Angie , Sarabeth and my daughter Cody . *laugh* Just us girls! 825:3:123:: You know, this was a really good weekend. I got a lot of stuff done. Although I didn't get EVERYTHING on my lists done... I took a big bite out of them... next weekend I'm planning to take the boys to the Festival of Trees and we also want to see the new Harry Potter movie. Another fun filled holiday themed weekend spending time with the people I love... asked me last night about how I had spent my weekend... and I told him in great detail about Sarabeth and the Nutcracker, Caleb and the Christmas trees, taking pictures of the girls in my old dresses... he said, " I'm glad you got to enjoy your family ...." True story. Even my boys were great this weekend... Ryan got up yesterday and washed the dishes voluntarily... everyone pitched in to help with the trees... Ryan took my car for an oil change... I know that I for what I'm lacking in a significant other, God has made up for me with an amazing family. 829:3:189:: After work I REALLY just wanted to go to bed. I had a bad earache... probably an ear infection and my wonderful Dr. had already given me an antibiodic for WHEN that happened... knowing that I would get another ear infection and not wanting me to have to spend the money on a doctor visit. But I also really needed to go ahead and take Austin to Pop's so that I didn't have to do it today. Austin's room was still in shambles... so I told Cody ... " if you will give me ten minutes of help on Austin's room... I will take you ANYWHERE you want to go for dinner ". He did... Cody's just like his dad in that respect... they can walk from one end of a room to another and the room is clean. I call it "white tornado". After ten minutes I was feeling better and had time to catch my breath and so we got in the car and headed to the grandparents. 829:3:78:: Did y'all miss me this morning? I was being a good girl and doing my 45 minutes of yoga instead of staring at the computer screen. Ok... that's not the real reason I didn't post this morning. The real reason is that in my concentrated effort to pay all of my December bills this past weekend... I managed to overlook the phone bill.... and I'm on dial up. Except for this morning... when there was no dial tone. I paid the bill online once I got to work and I set my phone bill up on automatic draft so I won't have that problem again. See... I make enough money to pay the bills... I just don't have enough TIME to pay the bills. 2006 will be the year of the automatic draft for Heather . I've got a power bill to pay, which I'll do on lunch tomorrow and then my bills are paid all the way through the second week of January! That is a first for me... 832:3:66:: I woke up this morning thinking about that 1.2 pounds that's separating me from my first ten percent at Weight Watchers. I want to really focus on the plan this week and on getting not only that 1.2 gone, but the last 4 pounds standing between me and my 2005 goal. I know people who are waiting until January 1st to begin working on their goals... I want to REACH my goal before then... so I'm not setting New Year's Resolutions ... I'm setting New Day's Resolutions ... just for today I'm going to train like an olympic athlete... focus on my weight loss like I was on The Biggest Loser.... watch sodium, push the water, increase the intensity of my cardio... Also for today I resolve to go to the vitamin shop as Barry suggested and get on a better multivitamin with iron and amino acids - to give me more strength and energy for my workouts. I'll let y'all know if it makes a difference! 838:3:213:: The University of Kentucky sweatshirt that is practically the ONLY sweatshirt I haven't given away (because it was a gift from Bootie Call ) is my bathrobe. I've never been one of those June Cleaver moms that sleeps in a peignoir set... gown, robe, slippers... I sleep in tshirts and shorts in the summer and sweats or (with the new me!) yoga/workout clothes in the winter. Lately Isleep in a spaghetti tank or sports bra... and in the morning when I get up and it's chilly, I put on my UK sweatshirt. It's so big on me that the shoulder seams are four inches below the top of my shoulders. You know... I didn't save any of my big jeans to be that before and after outfit for when I reach my goal. I realized that last week! Anyways... I need a new UK sweatshirt in a smaller size... but they're hard to find around here. Will have to buy online. 840:3:80:: I bit the bullet today and called to make my dentist appointment. I figured... I'll call now and they'll get me in sometime in January. Instead the receptionist said, " Can you come tomorrow at 8am ?"... " huh ?" I made it for Monday morning instead. That will give me the weekend to get my nerve up. I'm not sure what scares me more: the pain or the cost. She said they'd do a complete exam and xrays on Monday and come up with a treatment plan and payment schedule. GREAT... I'm probably going to pay the whole thing in advance because if it's paid for... I won't want to waste the money... but if every time I go I have to think about how much it's going to cost... I might not get it all done. And I want it all done... any volunteers to tag along and hold my hand and keep me from backing out? 840:3:81:: So... weight watchers this afternoon.... I was pretty sure I was going to be up today as I've been higher at home the past few days. I had decided I would be ok with a gain for this week... I know I've been on plan but not pushing... I know I've been exercising but not quite as hard due to the ear infection and busier schedule... I also knew that if I had a gain, it wouldn't be much. I'm not " off the wagon " ... I'm just not pulling that wagon as hard as I usually do... and that's ok. Life isn't all mountaintops... there are valleys along the way... but... it turned out that I did have a loss today of .2... that's POINT 2... but a loss is a loss and I'll take it and learn from this week and work harder next week so I can hit my ten percent. Only 1.2 pounds away! 853:3:155:: My sister in law is really feeling down on herself about her weight. Weget the big bang at the scale right away... but healthy habits are cumulative and eventually she will lose weight and in the meantime she will feel better and feel like she has some control over her life. Right now that feeling of being powerless to fix things is frustrating for her. She works so hard to have it all together... I think she pushes herself so hard with her career goals, wanting to be the best mommy she can, wanting to be the best pastor's wife and Christian she can. I consider myself the busiest person I know... except for Angie .... and it's easier for me because I'm so pragmatic... so what if there's laundry piled up on the dining room table and dishes in the sink? They'll get done eventually... 864:3:192:: Here's the thing... we don't eat at the dinner table at home because we all eat at different times. When my kids and I go out to eat, that's our "family dinner table". And because when you're eating out there is no television distraction and it's just you and your dinner guests entertaining each other... it's a great time to get to know your kids. Cody told me about a month ago that he misses having dinner with me. NOT ON A DIET... because I'm on a lifelong healthy eating plan... I need to make sure that the things I'm doing are things I can do for the rest of my life. I know that I can't eat thai food every night... but I CAN eat it once in awhile without causing a weight gain. 864:3:230:: The rest of the day was a flurry of phone calls and emails back and forth between the teachers, the principals, the autism specialist and myself. Yes, Austin is truly being a pain in the rear and I know this because he has been at home as well. Apparently he has been talking back, refusing to do his work and being generally uncooperative. The autism specialist and I both said, " why isn't he being punished ?" It's ridiculous. Austin needs to understand the link between cause and effect, more than most kids. He is suspended for the next three days. I'm angry and frustrated with him. He's just really trying my patience. My dad is going to takehim for the weekend to give me a break and hopefully give him a little attitude adjustment. 865:3:87:: We took some more pictures at work today... great pics that I will share when I get them uploaded to shutterfly. Jen , I think mama needs dsl for , what do you think? At work today someone finally realized how much work this little book is going to mean for me... it's fun... but it's going to take me 4-6 hours to pull it together. And I still have a Caleb book and a Sarabeth book to make. And three scrapbooks. I'm not stressing. AND... this year I'm doing photo gifts instead of food gifts...so it will all even out and not cost me calories! I did get the old photos redone today on my lunch hour... one thing at a time... little by little... It will all come together... it always does. 874:3:107:: I'm pretty sure that I'll be up at weigh in tomorrow. I've stayed on plan... exercised... even went on the late night chocolate binge that usually kickstarts the scale... but I'm 172.5 today... and that would put me above what I was at weigh in last week. I've only had one week when I was up so I'm not going to stress out over it. I'm doing good things... feeling strong and in control of the whole weight loss thing... people are not only noticing but treating me like an expert. I look different. I feel different. There are going to be bounces... there have been all along. If it happens... I'll just buckle down and push harder next week. There's always room for improvement. 875:3:179:: I'm really exhausted and not at all embarassed to say that I won't be getting any exercise in today. It was a long day and I definitely have an ear infection and have started the antibiodics this evening. I'm a big fan of the exercise thing but I also know that I have to listen to my body... I've got the rundown, body fighting infection thing going on... I'm in pain and running a fever. I told my dad that I doubted I'd make it to bible study in the morning. He was disappointed... and I hate that... but I've still got tons of things I need to accomplish this weekend and I have got to get some healing rest and relaxation time in. 883:3:157:: We wanted to take the pictures without my parents knowing about it... thinking we would have time after the Nutcracker and before dinner... but it didn't work out that way. So we snuck the dresses in under Angie's jacket and took the girls out to the bedroom and told my parents not to come in... it was driving them crazy! While we were dressing Jamie , Sarabeth started going out into the living room and we caught her just in time! It was sooooo much fun! The only bad part is that room is a converted garage and isn't heated... so the poor babies probably caught pneumonia from being out there in the little short dresses. 885:3:168:: I've seen the Nutcracker so many many times. I actually never saw it until my boys began dancing... but we danced four Nutcrackers... so I sat through hundreds of rehearsals... I guess... twenty performances in all... I worked backstage as a dresser and costumer... I did makeup... sewed little dance shoes... sewed people into costumes and cut them out of them afterwards... I worked in the wings, ushering dancers on and off stage, helping with quick changes that included tights in under sixty seconds... We've hosted the guest artist (who was very artsy but very straight and who called me his Georgia Princess... *sigh*)... you would think that I've seen it from every angle. 887:3:108:: Another old flame called today and asked how the weight loss was going... when I told him he said, " you must be skin and bones " I can assure you, not the case at all. And he saw me nekkid so he knows there was some fluff on the marshmallow... but... the cool thing was that he said, " I almost wish we could go out again so I could enjoy some of that hard work you've been putting in ". NOT! He was a not so much a flame as a spark that landed in the wrong place. But... being admired and desired is like chicken soup for the soul. 887:3:172:: I bought her a book about the Nutcracker... and she kept finding the page in the book that corresponded with the scene on stage. At intermission she looked a little nervous until I told her, " they're taking a break ". At the end of the show she teared up. I said, " what's the matter? are you sad that it's over ?" She nodded and sniffled and wiped away tears. When was the last time you enjoyed something so much that you cried when it was over ? After the show we went up on stage so she could meet the dancers and so Cody could talk to his old buddies. 887:3:198:: Non scale victory - the skinny little waitress who boxed up my food for me said, " You not like your dinner? I no charge for your dinner ...." I said, " Oh, I loved it !" She said, " you not eat much " I laughed and said, " I am watching what I eat so I can lose weight " she said, " you not need to lose weight, just fine like you are ". Ok.... so she needs lasix... or she was reaching for a good tip.... but there was a time that people couldn't get away with saying that to me. Cody was like, " Alright MOM !" 890:3:215:: Be kind to yourself day means that I am not stressing or rushing this morning. I am breathing deeply, savoring my coffee and not worrying about anything and pacing myself. Life is tough but I am tougher! We're going to put up the Christmas tree this weekend and I'm hoping to finish my Christmas cards today. I have a stack of gifts already that needs to be wrapped and I'm ready to get on with the shopping. I'm not one of those who likes to shop early because I like to be motivated by the *magic of the season* and by what is going on in that person's life. 890:3:229:: However... fresh out of my meeting with Bruce I got a call from Austin's school. One of his teachers was speaking in a very loud and authoritative voice over the phone at me about her frustration with Austin's behavior. Apparently I was to blame, therefore I needed to be reprimanded. She actually made the statement that she needed for me to START encouraging Austin to respect his teachers. I asked... again in that calm voice I used on Bruce ... " are you suggesting that prior to now I've been encouraging him to DISrespect his teachers ?" She made a couple of other such statements before she backed down. 891:3:232:: OK.... in the comments section I had a question about weight loss meds. I'm not really taking any. In August I was prescribed xenical which is a drug that prevents you from digesting fat when you eat a higher fat meal. I bought 1/2 a prescription in August (45 pills) and am not even halfway through the bottle. I don't eat high fat meals so I really don't need it. I take blood pressure meds for my high blood pressureand lasix (water pill) because there is tissue damage in the leg that I had cellulitis in back in June and fluid pools there without the lasix. That's it. 893:3:68:: I snapped this picture at the tree farm the other day. This is so symbolic of what I'm fighting... my dear old dad, the Weight Watchers drop out... who gained back all of the 80-something pounds he lost with WW plus some... that's what's inmy gene pool... vs. my beautiful, slender dancer sister-in-law . ( Katherine and I raced back to the car to get something for Caleb... I ran... with a skinny girl... and kept up with her!)The cards are stacked against me... my lifestyle and family history have me destined to be a fat girl... but I'm determined to be thin, healthy and beautiful! 895:3:190:: You can never just *stop by* my parent's house. They have to show you any new things... any furniture they've rearranged... mail they've received... update you on the family and so forth. Last night mom had set up the guest room for my brother Bryan and his girlfriend who are coming for Christmas. She also had a new dryer and needed Cody's help moving out the old one. In that process he cut his knuckles on her sliding glass door. Dad had a new bible study he wanted to show me... and so forth. We were there forever and by then we were starving! 899:3:118:: I'm going to buy tickets today for Wicked, which comes to Atlanta next May. I'm also going to check into buying some Falcons tickets.... Cody wants to go to a game so if I can get tickets I'll make it a Christmas present for Barry ... although we don't exchange presents. Can you believe it will be our third Christmas together? Or ... sort of together. He is real big on the reason for the season, this holiday is too commercial and all that.... however... I think he's just cheap. I love surprising people... coming up with fun gift ideas. 900:3:65:: Matt helps us settle our differences in mature and professional ways...." By the way... Amy wore a skirt for probably the first time since I've known her. She is doing so well... gaining enough confidence to start showing off her best assets... like... her legs! Funny story... she was looking at me strange yesterday and asked, " didn't that skirt used to be shorter ?" It did. It was too small so I wore it higher up on my waist so it would fit... plus it was plumped out a good bit... it used to hit above my knees. 902:3:135:: We had a great time... Caleb was, as usual, adorable... he speaks in sign language and he wanted my bottled water so he kept doing sign language for " more please ". It was so durn cute! I got lots of activity time in... walking, walking carrying Caleb, running, climbing the haystack... but I'm still going to do my pilates and maybe a little more cardio today because my weight is, unfortunately, up today. And by up... I mean TWO POUNDS over my lowest. This is NO GOOD! I want to be going in the other direction! 905:3:154:: HOPEFULLY... I can get all this done today PLUS get some good exercise time in. I hated missing yesterday... but at the same time that's another lesson for me in adapting this to my lifestyle... there will be days that no matter how determined I am... I'm doing too many other things to get in exercise. My health is always a priority but some days I can't take the time to do what I need to do so I have to make sure on the days that I CAN exercise that I DO exercise. 907:3:102:: Here's a high point you have to love: getting the $5 off coupon from CVS, actually saving it and then remembering to USE it while in the store! When I picked Austin up from school he had a fever so I brought him back to work with me (yes, to share the pleasure) and stopped to pick him up lunch, a magazine, a drink and some tylenol cold medicine. I picked up a few magazines for myself... some batteries for the camera and... that $41 bill was reduced to $36! Go TEAM! 909:3:231:: HOWEVER... in the midst of all this chaos... I have remained calm, cool and collected. I have not been upset... I managed to complete my workday and handle all my clients and a few of Amy's while she was in a class. I left work fifteen minutes early to get Cody to the chiropractor... and came home and started dealing with Austin . I'm eating a little dinner... then I'm going to do a quick cardio/pilates workout and then get my bath. In 22 hours my weekend will be underway. 912:3:151:: Sunday morning and I'm up early. I started my antibiodic last night... took that with a prescription decongestant and a sleeping pill AND my high blood pressure medicine and went to sleep around ten... I don't think I slept so much as I went into a coma for a few hours. I needed it so badly. My ear is better today... last night I couldn't open my mouth without pain... today I can open it a little... and it's draining so that must mean it's getting better. 913:3:156:: Here are a few of the pictures we took last night... the girls are wearing dresses that my parents' had my picture taken in many many moons ago... the one Sarabeth is wearing is the dress I wore for my brother's (her daddy) kindergarten graduation. The one Jamie is wearing was one that my baby picture was taken in... (I only had one formal portrait done in my first year... we were poor... and they just didn't do it every three months like parents do now). 913:3:199:: Today is the big Nutcracker event with my ! I'm also taking pictures of Sarabeth and Jamie in two of the dresses my parents had MY pictures taken in when I was little... one at 7 months and one at 3. I'm giving my parents pictures of me in the dresses beside pictures of Sarabeth and Jamie in the dresses... I thought that would be a nice gift. I'm sure I'll take tons of pictures today and will be back to share them with you sometime... 914:3:133:: He has decided that this is his turn... I can't remember. I thought he did it in 2003 but it might have been 2002. Either way it wouldn't be his turn again but you can't reason with this child. He was heartbroken at the thought of "not getting his turn"... so since we were going with David and Katherine to cut down a tree ANYWAYS... I decided to go ahead and do two trees, live and artificial. Call me crazy... he's happy and I'm happy. 918:3:136:: I've got some Barry time lined up for later... he called several times last night and I slept through it... but tonight... it's a date! Ok... not a real date... it's a "come over and watch Desperate Housewives with me and pretend that you don't like it and are only watching it because I like it so you can feel macho" date. I'm usually down 1-2 pounds the next morning after he comes over... so maybe he'll jump start the scale. 920:3:79:: I've often said that I don't miss being married... I mean... I get all the fun and none of the stress of having a man around. I can't imagine myself ever needing a husband... but I would love to have a wife! And I'm not making a coming out lesbian statement... I just mean that if I could have someone cook and clean and take care of the kids and the errands... my life would be a lot easier. 923:3:54:: See comments from last night. You know you post a lot when people think AOL Journals must be down because you didn't post. Funny! There's an article in one of the fitness magazines I picked up the other day about people who blog to help with weight loss. Lemme jes' tell ya... it helps uh-lot! Friend Scott had commented to me on the phone yesterday about how, even though I've been pretty at everyone's own convenience. 924:3:13:: Ever seen the scene in Gone With The Wind where Mammy is lacing Scarlett's corset up for the 12 Oaks Barbeque? That's me... only I don't have anyone to help me get dressed in the morning. I have to Tighten the Corset all by myself... with exercise, eating a balanced diet and prayer! I'm a divorced mom of three boys and an insurance agent. My 2005 goal was to lose 50 pounds... I'm almost there! 926:3:173:: Cody was 12 when he stopped dancing. He's grown a lot since then and naturally... the girls he danced with did too. Cody looked at the call board in the lobby during intermission and came back and said, " Mom... some of my girls have gotten HOT !" After the show, his old dance teacher came over and whispered to me that the girls were all in a huddle giggling over how cute 926:3:178:: On our way out I stopped by the boutique with her and she got her very own Nutcracker... she was so excited she shook! When we got to my parents' she started telling her daddy about it, " and the pretty ladies could stand on their tiptoe s!". It was such a special thing to share with her... her very first ballet! I'm so glad I got to be a part of that. 926:3:212:: Last night while Cody was seeing Hot Dr. Matt I was working on my 2006 budget. Matt came over and said, " whatcha doin' ?" in his cutiepatootie little innocent boy way... and I said, " working on next year's budget " He said, "the whole year? how's that goin' ?" and I said, " I've decided I need to marry rich ..." He laughed and said, " yeah, me too ". *daydream* 927:3:169:: Today I got to see the Nutcracker through Sarabeth's eyes and it was amazing! She was excited about the party children in their pretty dresses. She loved the Nutcracker. She loved (but was a little frightened of) "the man in the clock" (Drosselmeyer). He's a really nice man, a pastor, with two little girls of his own and took a few minutes to chat with Sarabeth and take a picture with her. 929:3:121:: In addition to the hour plus that I spent walking, running, playing at the tree farm yesterday I did 30 minutes of cardio and about twenty minutes of pilates last night. The plan was for me to do yoga this morning but... I think I got enough yoga in last night to last me... I'm kidding... but I'm too sleepy this morning to get centered enough for that. Cop out! 930:3:188:: Last night Cody and I went to my favorite Thai restaurant. I haven't eaten there since joining . I still had 16 points left for the day... for breakfast I had eaten two veggie sausage patties and a banana... for lunch I had healthy choice country vegetable soup and five fat free saltines (which are pretty good, btw!) and on the way home from work I had an apple... 930:3:55:: I stayed up late last night and have a case of the draggy butt's this morning. I was doing logic problems and got into what I was doing and didn't want to stop. I'm going to do a modified yoga routine this morning to wake my system up... I read somewhere that if you're feeling sleepy that if you do an inverted pose you will feel invigorated and refreshed. 931:3:228:: He doesn't bother me. This is a man I've known my whole life. He's always been a jackass and that's why he and my father have practically no relationship. He pays me a decent salary and I enjoy my work environment. Today was hard... it was hectic... but it's a stage in my life that is preparing me for the next stage in my life and I'm grateful. 934:3:134:: While discussing our options Ryan said, " mom... if he has his own tree, he's going to want to put all of his presents under his tree and on Christmas morning he's going to be off by himself opening presents. ... " I said, " is that supposed to be a pro or con ?". We decided two trees was not such a bad thing. 935:3:96:: I am surprisingly energized for having slept precious little last night and then worked through a long grey, miserable day... including spending my lunch hour retrieving the ailing Austin from the middle school.... a one hour round trip. After work I pushed myself through a 40 minute high intensity workout... got my bath and will be drying the weave in just a few minutes. 936:2:51:: My husband recently gave me the full-body Bracli from your web site. I blushed at first when I saw it in its full detail. But when I tried it on I loved it. I have even begun to wear it under eveningwear when we go out. The body makes me feel very feminine and feels exquisite, especially when I sit down. I am 936:3:59:: While you were out ... our book for Bruce that gives him a satirical view of what happens in the office when he's out of town on business... is going well. No Heath pictures yet as he's been at a class and then out of town for a funeral. He comes back tomorrow. Here are a few of my favorite photos so far: 937:3:104:: And what could make a grey sleepy Monday r a i n b o w brite other than a call from my favorite 'mo... JOEY ! Still busting at the seams to share Joey's big news with you guys but I won't do it without pictures. Maybe I'll get some of the Joey love soon.... with pictures to go along with it. 938:3:99:: Back tracking a little... how about a wonderful four point peanut butter and banana sandwich for breakfast? Here's how it works... use a light, high fiber bread, a small banana and instead of slathering on big thick tablespoons of peanut butter... use just a little but warm it in the microwave so it spreads really thin... it's a great portable breakfast! 940:3:170:: She loved the Rat King and the soldiers. I had told her that ballet was telling a story by dancing, instead of using words and that the dancers would pretend to be different things. During the snow scene I whispered, " those are the snowflakes " and she whispered back, " they look like birds ". It was hilarious! 942:3:194:: Although it was 8pm when we got home and I was already past my point of exhaustion for the day... I went ahead and put in about 45 minutes of exercise... high intensity cardio paced with lower intensity and then some pilates. Not a full pilates routine but hitting my biggest trouble spots (lower abs, inner thighs). 945:3:201:: One last picture I have to share this morning... our town has the happy little light up Christmas decorations on the light poles through the middle of town.... there is a candle decoration that when you glance over at it.... looks like a penis. I had to get a picture of it to share... 947:3:174:: Cody is now... his little girlfriend, Kara , who used to make him valentines out of construction paper and magic marker, came over and they talked. Some of the older girls talked with him. Everyone remarked about how tall he is... cute he is... it was a real ego trip for him! 947:3:67:: I think people gain weight over the holidays not just because there are more temptations but also because it's a time when you are too busy to focus on yourself. I can't afford to not focus on myself... I'm much more valuable to the people I love as a thinner, healthier person. 949:3:57:: I have a little sumptin' lined up for this evening... I might come back and tell you all about it... or I might be too busy. Let's hope I'm too busy! Heather needs a little freaky in her life... been hanging with the straight laced conservative Bear for too long. 950:3:132:: Sometimes it's just easier to divide than to conquer. We take turns letting one person decide how the tree is to be decorated. I usually do mine in University of Kentucky blue. The last time Austin did it... we nicknamed it the tree of shame ... it was hideous. 951:3:105:: We took some pictures at work today... and by "we" I mean Austin , as I was far too busy. Not crazy busy but steady busy... and working a little harder than usual so I can push those numbers up for next year. Show me the money ! 952:3:175:: Sarabeth was in awe of the "pretty ladies" and the "princesses". She spent a long time wandering around onstage just looking and taking it all in. Then Joshy took her backstage to show her where they keep the props... she was most interested in the grandfather clock. 953:2:40:: Yet so many people, especially macho men, will avoid purchasing a well fitting corset for temporary relief to aching back muscles. Custom corsets are far, far superior to any bulky medical corset ever in the past prescribed by a back doctor for me! Please do call 953:3:85:: But I also am fiercely loyal, loving, forgiving and generous... much more often and more consistently than most people I know. I like me... and a lot of people can't say that. I've come too far in life to be stressed out over rejection from anyone. 954:3:103:: Another great part of the day: getting two Christmas cards in the mail including a really sweet one from Jland's famous Jen . Mine, alas, are not yet in the mail but I HAVE written my return address on all of them and signed them. 956:2:34::consultation or computer work. I recently ordered a more sturdy corset for increased support as I get more active, and just love it. Sue Nice whipped up a lovely light blue brocade standard corset, only $280! (see purple one modeled by Silke!) I've never 956:3:120:: clothes I had tossed to floor last night were folded neatly on my ottoman... *sigh*... what a sweet touch! And I'm back down to 172, I think... that was with trying to estimate my clothing weight, so there may be that added bonus! 958:3:56:: An inverted pose would be something where you bend over... I tried that yesterday at work when I felt the afternoon sleepy spell coming on and it really worked. It took about thirty seconds and I was a brand new person! 958:3:58:: They're saying we may get some nasty precip tomorrow. Or it might just be the northeast corner of the state (where my Princesses live). How much would I love a snow day about right now? As long as we have power... 960:3:98:: morningstar farms faux chicken patties - totally YUM! paired with roasted chickpeas ... yes, I said ROASTED... I rinse them, sprinkle with a little garlic powder, paprika and sea salt and roast until crunchy. made for a fabulous dinner! 961:3:225:: I started my day with 45 minutes of yoga. Good thing. Otherwise I'd be on the news for having a mental breakdown and taking others down with me. To say that today has been "trying" is an understatement. 962:3:63:: Honoring the office no-smoking policy. Actually... it's against the law to smoke in any public building in Georgia. A law I heartily embrace. (ps. to Friend Scott ... this was taken while I was talking to you....) 963:3:141:: David and Cody wrestle on top of the haystack... David may be a father of two, gainfully employed, mature adult but when he's around Ryan and Cody they all lose about ten years worth of maturity. 963:3:226:: Our staff meeting was bipolar. In one minute we were being lectured about office procedures that we haven't been doing correctly... and in the next we were being given reward plaques to hang in our offices. 964:2:41::me if you want to discuss this possible relief for your own back pain: 415 585-0760, and I'll be happy to share more information and commiserate as I try to recover my own good health soon! 967:3:17:: Join this modern day Scarlett as she uses Weight Watchers, GhettoCardio, Pilates and sheer stubborn determination to Tighten the Corset all by herself! My name is Heather and I'm from Jonesboro, GA. 968:3:180:: We took a ton of pictures of the girls in my old dresses... which fit them both perfectly! I'll post those tomorrow... just wanted to get the Nutcracker pictures on tonight. 968:3:200:: Tomorrow we're going with David and Katherine to cut down a Christmas tree. Lots of great photo ops there as well. So I get to see all my babies this weekend! 968:3:82:: My current weight watchers weight is 172.8. I'll take it. Then I got home and changed into my pjs and got my nekkid weight and hit a new low of 171! 969:3:88:: Time for me to hit the save button, get my bath and wrap this long day up. Hope everyone is doing well... drop me a little hello or sumptin' wouldja? 971:3:217:: Bruce is leaving for Arizona this morning. Too bad for Arizona, great for our office. He's not a monster but he is abrasive. You're a mean one... Mr. Grinch... 974:3:159:: Time for me to stick my hair into a ponytail and get busy with my to do list... hope you all have a fabulous day! 974:3:84:: pounds to my 2005 goal! I have 25 days left to lose four pounds... this is crunch time, PEOPLE! I want to make my goal! 977:2:282:: Sassy Denna models her new pantaloon/chemise outfit by Diana for Romantasy, wearing her standard Sue Nice corsets closed at 23" (22" underneath!) 978:3:106:: I might share details but I probably won't be able to keep it within TOS-free standards. At least I hope not. 980:2:302:: The Mayo Clinic's web site, has a list of eight easy steps as a strategy to eat more fiber: 980:3:86:: He's missing out on sharing a wonderful journey with me. And that's all I have to say about THAT. 981:2:210:: fit for tight lacing and long wear (up to 2.5 or 3 yrs of daily wear at 24/7 981:2:384:: was it! After that, I did not care! It felt so good, I had to get my own. 982:2:108:: to lace down NO MORE THAN 2 FOR 2 HOURS, and do this six or seven times 982:2:109:: before going up in hours of wear by 1 hour each of six more times, and down 982:2:15::waistline to a 24 waistline corseted, and here is Denna one month after her program at 110 pounds! 982:2:179:: would agree with me. Well, maybe 95% . . . :-) The point is, they make superior, 982:2:199::a client from $15 to $35 (I have paid up to $35 to dry clean a corset) per 982:2:211:: 4 or more inches reduction, versus the cinch up to 2.5 years at 3 days a week, 982:2:284:: I'll bet you're like me: you think you know about fiber and what it is and how 982:3:101:: My day wasn't ALL about food... actually, food has played a very small role in my day. 982:3:167:: Nothing in the world looks as magical as it does through the eyes of a child . 982:3:195:: Here's what I looked like last night in one of Cody's sweatshirts and my size 12 jeans! 983:2:115::great care to go in great detail into how to do this, and how to get the 983:2:155:: If this is the case, and you would like to step up to a fully custom 983:2:177:: together--- you can check them out on other web chats to be sure of that statement, 983:2:218:: Nonetheless, I wear my 19 cinchers a lot, some of them day in and day out 983:2:285::to get more in your diet, but I'll bet when it comes down to brass tacks, you 983:2:329:: at least three grams of fiber per serving, up to the highest, 15 grams per serving. 983:2:32:: When I have to be standing up or sitting for over an hour, I microwave a 983:2:330:: Here's a great chart I use based on the Mayo Clinic and Dr. Nelson's book, as 983:2:382:: of the garment for anyone that I felt a little more at ease. Then, I had 983:2:386:: to buy your book and try corsets, I'm not sure. I think men have to be 983:2:396:: back (best not ask why I was watching it!). I wish I'd known what a leader 983:2:405:: that we both could open it (thought it would be unfair of me not to wait). 983:2:63:: From time to time, we fail to please a client, and for that, we take major 983:2:83:: But I am glad you wrote me.
