Writing Exercise due 4 October 2004
Read 3-13 of Being a Writer. Get an idea of how the
different writing activities work.
For class, do "Activity One" on page 4 and "Activity Two" on page
5. Use the writing prompt given for Activity One, but use this prompt
for Activity Two:
- Write about what people in your discipline do on a day-to-day
basis? Another way to approach this question: describe how you would
pursue your discipline if you had your way. Use lots of detail, but
be sure to stick to the idea of freewriting--write for 10 minutes
straight.
- Select one of the disciplines you are considering at Columbia.
Pick out a specific part of it and talk about that part. For
instance, if you are considering photography, talk about a specfic
kind of photography that attracts you.
Don't worry about editing your writing. Bring it along to class.
This writing may be typed or handwritten.
