In-class writing 4 October 2004
We'll be doing three more of the writing exercises from chapter one
of Being a Writer.
- Activity 3: Clustering—Write the figure from your discipline
in the center of the page. "Cluster" ideas around it, as shown on
page four. (10 minutes).
- Activity 7: Letter—Imagine that ten years have passed. You
have finished your work at Columbia and embarked upon your discipline.
Write a letter to a potential agent or new employer detailing what
you've done since you left Columbia. Try to be realistic, but have
some fun too.
- Activity 8: Come up with a name for your band. As a group, write
a few sentences (three or four, at least) explaining why you chose
your name. (Hint: discuss your sentences for a few minutes, then take
turns working on one draft of the paragraph.)
