Reading Response:
After you read the two articles for this week, blog an answer to the following questions:
- "Fair Play" explores issues of violence, gender, and race in games. Consider either the section on gender or the
section on race and write a response to the article. You should explain what the article argues and address its
claims carefully. Feel free to pull quotes from the article (indicated, of course, by quote marks or indentation) to
strengthen your case. Remember that you're a scholar here, so try to use rational arguments and ideas.
- Explain the main argument and conclusion in Mia Consalvo's investigation of The Sims. Using the same kind
of approach she uses, ponder how the depiction and creation of sexuality works in another game you have played. Does
the game allow the kinds of slippages Consalvo spots? Does the the game assume or enforce heterosexuality? How?
