In readings and writing assignments for this course, I have asked you to consider meanings and interpretations of games you have been playing. Many of the theory articles we have read produce interpretations of games and analyze them. Having read a few of these articles, I would like you to spend a few minutes writing about the value such readings have.
In the next twenty minutes, I'd like you to write two long paragraphs that ponder the value of doing interpretative (or hermeneutic readings on games). Your first paragraph should consider what we gain from producing and reading these essays. In your second paragraph, make an argument about why 'readings' like the ones we've read so far are a bad idea.
Try to present a reasoned, careful argument about the pros and cons of such investigations. Consider both sides of the issue and write in a voice appropriate for academic work.
