After you read these two chapters, post responses to them on your blog. Below are prompts
to help you think about the reading.
- Turkle suggests that the line between our real lives and our online lives isn't as solid as we generally believe it to be. How do you think things have changed between when she was writing this book (1994 or so) and today? Do you think there should be any status to online activity, in terms of real-world acknowledgement or understanding? Is all 'play time' on the web or online gaming 'wasted time'?
- Chapter 10 deals with the idea of 'multiple selves' in online spaces. How does this idea translate for you? Do you have multiple personae online? On your website, your blog, your gaming forums? Is there a difference between online personae and the multiple masks we wear in our everyday life?
Post your responses on your blog, as usual.
