During the semester, I will offer a few extra credit opportunities. These can be used in one of
two ways:
- To 'excuse' one absence from the semester. Great if you have three absences
and stand to lose 75 points.
- To earn a few extra points to cover for missed day-to-day assignments
Please note, however, that the amount of time involved in extra credit assignments
usually out-paces the amount of time involved in doing the day-to-day assignments.
- 26 Apr: Extra reading blog. If you missed a reading or just want some extra points, you can do an additional reading sometime between now and 10 May. The reading assignment is linked from the schedule page for 10 May. Interested students just need to post their response on their blog as usual, and they will get credit for the assignment as usual for readings responses.
- 25 Apr: Attend the Scott Anderson lecture in the Digital Media Culture class on
Tuesday, April 25 at 5 p.m. in
Auditorium 405 in the 623 S. Wabash building. He will speak about independent game development. Write a 500 word response reflecting on his ideas about independent game development. What did he say about indie games and game development? Do you agree with his ideas? Why?
- 22 Feb: Visit the Science and Industry Museum and thoroughly explore the GameOn 2.0 exhibit. Write a 1000 word blog
entry describing some of the things you learned at the exhibit. How does the exhibit discuss game culture? Do you
think Game Culture is described fairly? What would you have done differently if you'd designed the exhibit?
(Due: 31 March)
- 25 Jan: Help design a new look for the GameCultureWatch blog.
(Due date: see me about this one.)
