- In-class work and participation
- Much of the work we do for this class will occur during our class time. We will do small collaborative exercises, have discussions, and conduct "labs" that focus on various skills and techniques. To do well on this portion of your grade, you must arrive on time, participate in activities and discussions, and generally be an active, engaged student.
- Reading Responses:
- Because many of the readings for this course are challenging, I will provide a set of questions and thinking prompts for you to use with each. You can find these reading prompts by clicking on the appropriate link in the homework section of this syllabus. After you have completed the reading, you should type up your answers to the response questions I have provided. To get full credit, follow the directions on the reading guide and turn in your response on the OASIS forums. Please type your comments and then cut-and-paste them into the forum text box.
- OASIS Forums:
- New media are variegated, diverse beasts. One of my goals in this course is to encourage you to think about how media interact all around you. The forums serve as one way to do soit will keep our conversation lively in between class meetings, and will give us a space to explore other notions of what new media can be. Throughout the term, I will ask questions and suggest topics for discussion on the forums. We may bring in class topics or discuss issues that never emerge in class. Each student is required to post on the forums at least twice each week (reading responses do not count toward this goal). Posts must be added between class periods, and should be both thoughtful and substantive. The OASIS forums are one of the links on the class OASIS page.
- Projects:
- See the course projects page for details and descriptions of our projects.
