Multiple Selves

As Turkle's writing points out, the emergence of the digital age has helped us become more comfortable with the notion of 'multiple selves' in our daily lives.

Discussion question 1:
With your group, make a list of the different personas the people in your group inhabit in their daily lives. One way to think about these separations might be to look at roles you play--for instance, I'm a teacher, a husband, a father, a friend, a gamer, and so on. However, you should keep in mind that not every different role requires a different persona. For instance, I feel like I have pretty much the same persona in my roles as husband and as a father. Only include on your list times that require you to adopt a different persona (or significantly alter your public face).

Discussion question 2:
Now discuss the kinds of personae you have adopted online. Have you ever actively experimented with different roles (I know this has come up a few times before)? Does it change your online experience if you're being 'yourself' online versus if you're trying out other roles?
