Philosophy

In an ideal world, grades should serve as a communication space between the instructor and the student. In most grading situations, I will provide written feedback as well as a score-if you are unclear about my reasoning for your grade, please ask me about it. I encourage you to consider my comments carefully-they are the meat of your assessment. The grade is window dressing.

Completing the Course

You should note that you cannot pass this course without completing all major assignments. While you will not receive any credit for assignments more than a week late, you must complete all assignments in order to pass the class. That is, you cannot just "slide by" and complete only part of the work and still pass this class. In general, I allow extensions to students who contact me prior to the assignment being due. Up to a week late, you will lose a half or a full letter grade, depending upon the assignment. After a week goes by, the assignment counts as a zero, but you will preserve your right to try to complete the class. Additionally, if you miss more than 3 Writing Center sessions and do not make them up, you will lose a letter grade per missed session in this course.

For descriptions of these assignments, see the Work page.
