During the semester, I will offer a few extra credit opportunities. These can be used in one of two ways:

1. To 'excuse' one absence from the semester. Great if you have three absences and stand to lose 75 points.
2. To earn a few extra points to cover for missed day-to-day assignments

Please note, however, that the amount of time involved in extra credit assignments usually out-paces the amount of time involved in doing the day-to-day assignments.

All Extra Credit is DUE 8 MAY

• DIY Exhibit:
  Visit the DIY Exhibit in the Art and Design gallery and examine the installation closely. Write a short essay (500-750 words) explaining how new media writing relates to the DIY movement. You should talk about the philosophy of the exhibit and put your ideas in conversation with the installation itself. Worth up to 30 points
• Viral media discussion:
  On 1 May, interested parties will lead a discussion about "viral media" and their role in New Media writing and culture. Students interested in this option should contact me ASAP to inquire about details and requirements. Worth up to 30 points, 4 students max.
• MOCP:
  Visit the Museum of Contemporary Photography and examine the exhibits closely. Write a short essay thinking about the relationship of photography, movement, and new media writing. Connect the exhibit you explore with the ideas in the class (hint: the Edward Hopper piece would be a good place to start).
