This is called a "diagnostic essay." The idea is to give me a sense of where each of you are starting the course -- what are your strengths and what are your weaknesses? What areas should we work on improving?
Write about your experiences with writing. Do you like or dislike writing? Why? Tell me about classes you've taken or other experiences that have shaped you as a writer. What challenges do you face as a writer? What strengths will you bring to the table?
