The assignment:
In class on Monday and Wednesday, we discussed the U.S. Bill
of Rights and the South African Bill of Rights. Working from
the comparison and thinking we did in class, consider one
article of the South African Bill of Rights that you think we
should add to our own U.S. Bill of Rights. Write a short
essay explaining your reasoning. You can talk about how we
seem to be missing that right, or how it would benefit us to
have that right. You should also talk about why you think
this is the most important right to add to our Constitution at
this time.
Rhetorical considerations:
I certainly expect that you will suggest a right that's important to
you. But as you argue, you should consider your audience to be a
mixed audience--some people will be amenable to your argument, others
will disagree. It's important to be specific and interesting in
making your argument, as well as persuasive.
Again, don’t assume there is any right answer. Think about all the elements of the project and work through it from there.
