Reading Response Guide

As you write responses to the readings, you should follow this format:

  1. Summary: a two or three-sentence blurb summarizing the main idea or focus of the article.
  2. 2 Questions: write two questions about the article. These could be "discussion questions" meant to lead others into strong conversation about the article OR they could be specific things you would like answered.
  3. Reflection: write 250 words or so reflecting on the reading. This reflection should be thoughtful and focused. One approach is to debate the article's main point; another is to pick a quote that really made you think and expound on that; a third approach is to connect the ideas in the article with your own experience or ideas. There's no hard-and-fast rule except to show that you read the article and write about 250 words.

This format is important, as it makes grading easier and helps me pull out questions and concerns quickly. Follow it to insure that you get full credit for your responses.
